Help. Creaking Noises

Postby scottvoltage on Sun 7/Jul/13 11:24am

My bike has been creaking lately somewhere around the drive train whenever i'm in a high gear and put some pressure down. So I have replaced the bottom bracket, cranks, pedals, suspension bearings and chain,(all the things people say could be the reason) and its still there. If u have any ideas please post them. Its annoying the hell out of me!!!

Don't forget the derailleur hanger. These get a little bit loose and/or gritty and creak away

Derailleur hanger is fine. But when inspecting that area i found that the cassette is quite loose. Could this be it?

I'll get that fixed and see if the noises go.

AND check frame closely for any hairline cracks... my Soul was making a weird noise, sounded like there was gravel inside the frame when i was wheeling it around over bumpy ground, but no other noise any other time, and it was badly cracked...

Also, years ago my KHS started a weird creak, near the BB, about a km before the chainstay gave way.

Swap your rear wheel to test. Check creaks from loose spokes while at it.

I get a creak from my front skewer note being tight enough. That took a long time to track down

Mine was doing the same, turned out to be a cracked free hub body . . . . .

Front skewer creaks are lame and suck because they are so basic! doh!
