Bakfiets Cargo Bikes Soon To Be Popular In Christchurch?

Postby felixcollins on Mon 25/Jun/12 9:45pm

About 4 months ago A friend and I finished building a Bakfiets cargo bike. The build is detailed at felixcollins.com I thought I must have something unique in NZ. If not the only bakfiets then at least the only homebuilt bakfiets. Then I went to another friend's house warming and another guy there had also just finished building one of similar design! Then someone flogs a commercially built one off on trademe at greatly reduced price. What is going on here? At the moment I get comments when I pull up at the lights with my daughter riding in it but I'm wondering if there are heaps of other ones out there being built. Anyone else at it? Shall we have a cargo bike rally sometime?

Nice! We'd need more than two of us for a rally. Another guy I know is building a longtail though so that makes 3. 4 if I can get the other bakfiets builder in on it...

Bullit would be cool but I wonder what sort of money we are talking??? My bike is 25kg, 185mm disc rear and magura rim brake on the front. So pretty good for the price.... (not much really, mostly parts I had...)
