Half A 29er ........ 96er

Postby RugbySucks on Tue 27/Dec/11 9:00am

Has Anyone on this forum experimented with a 96er ?
I rode an Anthem 29er, and really enjoyed the way it seemed to 'smooth out' the trail. However, I did not like the slow steering, as these bikes seem to pick up speed really quickly, Rolling along a lot faster than my 26er. This is great, but turns singletrack into a bit of a mission. Felt like 'cruise mode' was not an option.
Another thing i noticed, was a tendency to try and fall over into the corner, once you lost a bit of momentum in a climbing switchback.
So I bolted on a Reba Team 100mm 29er fork onto the front of my 26" Anthem. Steers faster, rolls almost as quickly, and smooths out the trails.
When it comes to climbing though, it seems just a bit light in the front end. The rear shock is an RP3 with lockout.
Do i need to try more brands of 29ers ?
Stop buggering around with shit I don't fully understand ?
Or, Be philosophical, and just content with my lot ?

What do you know out there ?????

spend more time getting used to the bike. a slightly different riding stye is needed for a 29er and it take a lil bit to get used to.

I agree, the first few weeks on my 29er were interesting for sure, more crashes than I care to count. I'm loving every minute of it now, I would hazard a guess that I'm faster on most stuff than I was on a 26, but the rigid forks keep things in check at times. Take moar time to get a feel for it. :)

Or put a 26" wheel and fork on the front of an Anthem 29er to speed the steering up.

Chopper that shit out yo!

Spent a bit of time adapting to the bike as suggested.
The bike responds well to a bit more input on the bars, although the steering is a bit slower, the bigger footprint gives quite a bit more grip. Plus it is very stable.
