Poulter River Mtb Track Closed

DOC website reports "the Poulter Valley Track (walking, mountain biking) is closed between the Mt White Road (Poulter Bridge) and Pete Stream. Recent heavy floods have completely destroyed several large sections of track. These sections cannot be safely crossed."

Bugger, scratch that trip then.

Did they ever draw any conclusions form the 'trial'?

When did the flood damage happen? I rode this 2 weeks ago and was no significant damage then.

Last weeks nor'west storm did it according to softrock site

I'm a bit surprised. The track doesn't look like it should have many sections vulnerable to damage.

I'm sure it will be fixed in due course. Is a nice easy back country ride.

I bet its the scree-ish rockslide bit and the low (close to the Poulter) section after that, and maybe Pete Stream itself... they could all wash out the track pretty easily if the poulter got high enough and there was enough of a torrent down the side gullies.

Considering its DOC's main access into the valley by quad, i'd say they'll get it sorted before too long.

I haven't ridden the track...yet, so don't know that area too well but according to softrock its a stretch starting 700 metres up from the carpark and is due to the Poulter changing course taking out "a large section of track".

a friend has, and she said it was heinous over the big wash out... otherwise as boring (yet scenic!) as it normally was...

Biked through last weekend , overnight at the trust-poulter hut and a wee tramp up to Lake Minchin .
Thoroughly enjoyable !!!
washout not what I would call heinous and as for boring - all comparative really
