Amazing bike. Are the wheels original? Was it a competition or recreational bike back then? And you must have story about how you came to have it, shirley.

Very nice, white tyres go well with bare steel.
Have you found a good waterproof clear finish or is it just stripped temporarily?

Yes, it has a wheelbase to be reckoned with....

It came to me with the paint 80% stripped, and what was left was a mix of black and yellow - I did not consider this an appropriate patina and when I stripped it it looked pretty shmick so I went with it. It has a coat of beeswax to provide marginal protection, but will never be a rainy day machine and anyway rust would only improve it. The tyres are readily available brand new from David at Velo Ideale.... which proves it is the best bike shop in the known universe.

I think it was probably a fairly standard sit up and beg machine, but the madman who sold it to me threw in the Major Taylor stem for unfathomable reasons of his own (probably my winning smile), so it was destined to look like this.

Surely someone else has something similar that I can covet?

I can verify that it looks unlikely to be a 57cm.

Agreed, to short in the HT for a 57

Nice, I was only introduced to the concept of Path Racers today by a retro grouch. They are purty.

Old path racers are things of beauty, I own a 1950s Wearwell fixed gear path racer in faded, but 100% original paint. Unfortunately it no longer has its original wheels and brakes having been fitted with a set of French made old school wheels and a centre pull front brake by its previous owner.

When I find a picture of it I will post it here......
