Way back in the day, Simon Kennett used to run the Wellington Short Course XC Champs along this course. It has changed little over the years, save for a great new piece of single track near the bottom built, coincidentally, with Kennett initiative.
No, it's not the most glorious single track meal in Wellington. Yes, the climb is fairly miserable. Of course, there will be some sort of weirdo task to complete at the 1/2 way point. Naturally, there will be a single speed category. But more importantly, it is a hark back to the good old days.
It's a week out from the Huka XL, so a good chance to sharpen the shanks with a nice short effort. It may even be fun?
Course: Up the Tip Track / Down Red Rocks When: Registration from 8am Sunday 20 November 2011 - Gun goes at 10am. Where: The Quarry on the South Coast. Start from the carpark and ride around until you see the obvious start/finish point. Damage: $5.00
I've attached the event poster, but I'm not very good with attachments so it may not work.
Weather is neither here nor there on the forecast. I do have the best Serbian witchcraft on the case though so watch this space for unprecedented blue skies.
The plus side is that if the weather is crap it'll be hard to convince the babes to get to the top of the Tip Track, which will in turn avail the racers of having to perform a marginal task at the halfway point...
