Rear Shock Choice - Which One!

I'm replacing my DHX Air on my Lapierre Froggy with a coil shock, but there is so much info out there I cant decide!

My bike is used as an all mountain beast for occasional freeride/DH runs (not racing). Its got a Fox 36 Float up front.

Here are the options -

Elka Stage 5 - Tuned for the bike for free, some bad reviews, but generally good. Good success on a low leverage rate bike like mine. A little bit noisy in the rebound

X-fusion Vector HLR - Good performance on low leverage ratio bike, not a lot out there on it. Good adjustment. A bit lighter than the others

CCDB - very good reviews, heaviest, expensive.

Fox DHX RC4 - not supposed to be good with low leverage ratios, can get at a good price, similar adjustments to others. known quality.

At the moment i'm leaning toward the x-fusion/elka.

What are your thoughts/experiences with these units. I'm not getting much help from the manufacturers.

What about a Vivid?

Could be swayed.......have not heard any good or bad things about the vivid.

RC4 - not good with low leverage? then why does Foes spec them on some of their frames, Foes 2:1 leverage would be some of the lower leverage within the cycle industry. Also you can get a RC4 custom valved to work with your frame

Elka, seem to work in a DH application, very noisy though especially on the rebound cicuit - sounds like they need a re-bled - but its just how they work

X-Fusion - I've had little to do with them, I know there product is going ahead in leaps and bounds, but.......

CCDB, a very lusted after product, its a shame I can't get one to fit my current trail frame, if you believe the hype, this is the shock you want, but.....

Marzocchi Roco coil WC - shim stack compression damper (ie its tunable) , not super heavy, and they work, plus there is support in NZ

I doubt you will find a poster on the website (or many for that matter) who have ridden all of the above

X-Fusion, Elka, CCDB, what real support is there for them in NZ??

What about a Vivid?

X2 I run a Vivid 5.1 in the back of my Sunday

Very smooth, dampings mint , beginning + end stroke rebound , slow speed comp' , blah blah - fully serviceable at home with RS tools - rebuild kit for home mech ( not that I have needed one yet, '08 model ). Springs are half the price of Fox coils. Compared to my old DHX its a revelation, the back end works soooo good now. You won't be disappointed

Wait for the X-Fusion HLR Air shock, coming in August. I know a guy on Pinkbike who does testing for them, apparently it blows even the Rc4 out if the water.
