North Face:gravelling; Wednesday 11th And Thurs 12th

Postby Robbie on Tue 27/Jul/10 10:00am

There is gravelling work taking place on the upper few hundred metres of North Face this week.

There may be machinery such as bobcats about, not to mention people, tools and wheelbarrows, so please be very vigilant.

If you intend to ride this trail be prepared to stop at any time- you may even be advised that the trail is closed.

If you have any specific questions on site, please ask to speak to the Ranger, Joby Mills, or Don Macleod (from the Makara Peak Supporters).

This work is a big job, however it will provide a fantastic foundation for the track for years to come. Please be considerate and polite to all those working on it :)

Cheers,

Rob

I could see at least 6 riders' lights navigating down North Face this evening, very spectacular

The gravelling work is continuing tomorrow (Thursday july 28) .....

We went down in a group of 6 an hour or so ago, the top corners are looking much nicer :) Dam it gets cold the further down the hill you get!

Yus those valleys lower down are pretty chilly.

Glad you liked it.

With more gravelling work tomorrow things should be even better :-)

We have a report from Joby Mills, our Park Ranger, on the work so far:

This week we got 7 cubic metres of clay over burden gravel aggregate (this is the "cake mix" gravel as used on leaping Lizard) spread on the top section of Nth Face for approx 100 metres or so.

It's looking really good.

I'll be getting another load next week all being well and continuing this technique with a couple of community service worker gangs until it's all gone.

Big thanks to Joby and the WCC
