All the cool kids are going back to downhill anyway. Maybe I'll double bang the double headers for extra lulz

I'm going to try and organize transport to every single DH race (All nats and champs), and try and film each one, like Vorb TV used to. So watch for a new thread when the time comes

Maybe if more XC riders showed up to the events, it could be financially viable to run a 6 round series again? :eh:

Hey guys,
Its not a financial decision behind MTBNZ dropping from 6 to 4 XC events. It's based largely on rider feedback that a series of 6 (plus Nat'l Champs) is too many squeezed into that compressed two month time frame.
6 works for DH, but we are trying to line things up better for XC. Running 4 will enable us to focus on ramping up the quality, and hopefully improve the appeal of these again.
Feedback always welcome!

Firstly it's great to have these dates out early. Makes planning so much easier.
Secondly I agree with Chris re the XC. These are events for riders to come together and test their skills and training against other riders. It makes for exciting racing seeing each year who has put the training in who has stepped up from juniors to challenge the old bulls.
Spread this over to many events and it gets diluted people choose one or two events then choose to miss others on the National circiut. With XC there are so many regional events run by clubs and other operaters that can fill in the gaps. Some of these events have 50+ juniors.
MTBNZ needs to look at changes for XC as they are doing overseas listening to feedback. If you ask any bike shop what bikes they sell most of it would not be road or DH but the XC style and most bike brands wouldnt be in business without their XC range. So lots of people ride XC not many want to race and any good National body needs to look at the changes necessary to encourge more to participate in this style of racing.
I enjoy DH, Road, XC, Track etc. Lets celebrate two wheels in all its formats.
Good luck to all in Champery over the weekend.
