Towbars

Postby iScott on Fri 21/May/10 8:24pm

Just a friendly piece of information.

Was calling around various places in Wellington for quotes on the cost of a tow bar being fitted to my car.
Here are the prices I was quoted for installing a tow bar without wiring:

Wellington Tow Bar Services (Vivian St) $340

Pit Stop (Tory St) $400

East Coast Tow Bars (Hutt Rd, Lower Hutt) $240

Needless to say I went with East Cast Tow Bars. Booked the car in, turned up 9am on a Monday morning, they said come back in an hour, I did and it was all done. Good service.

as far as i can tell yea. perfect for a bike rack. has a hole to attach a padlock/chain etc

i actually asked the guy why they're so much cheaper. he said its because they manufacture the two bars themselves and a lot of the other places buy the tow bars off them anyway.

I got one put on there two weeks ago, and thought they'd done a very good job. Then a couple of days later I found that they had needed to move part of the fuel system to attach the towbar, and had reattached the part with cable ties

My last towbar came courtesy of TradeMe... Was for a mid 90's Lancer that I bought for a hack - found one within two weeks of looking - 20 bucks plus 15 for shipping ex Auckland. Came with trailer socket, and was a breeze to fit - even came with the fitting bolts. Just get under the car, get someone else to hold the whole shebang in place, bolt 'er up, torque the bolts, and do the wiring (assuming you are capable - otherwise an auto elec could hook you up pretty quick).
