Postby hsv5 on Fri 9/Apr/10 6:01pm

my name is James, Im 12 years old and currently into Downhill. then my mate told me that he was gonna quit down hill and start doing dirt jump. it got me thinking of which one of these riding styles i should get into. i have created a poll on whether to get into dirtjump or downhill. select the one that you think would be better. i ride a kona scrap by the way

bro decide it for yourself. on your bike you can do both so just try them both then do the one you like the most

you dont have to specialise. even the top riders like to play around. being good at dj will help with dh and vice versa. if you like it, do it. djs during the week and dh runs on the weekend. that kinda thing

you can do both of these on the bike you have i expect. at the age of 12 your probably best to try as many things as you can i mean i have quite a few bikes and they are all for different uses street-dj/xc/fixed gear...etc etc, just have a play around and see what you enjoy then work hard at it/them. :)

dude?? 12 year olds shouldn't be thinking of specialising in one type of riding. Do it all esp on your bike. DH develops skills for DJ and DJ develops skills for DH, and trail riding develops fitness for Both. Dunno if you seen some race results recently, the best DH riders are pretty good XC racers. How else are you gonna have the fitness to fang it all day? you need pretty good fitness and power to crank a bike up to speed for a jump or a race.

At your age, all round skills are what you're looking for. Like what one of the comments above said. DJ after school and for kicks, then go hit some DH tracks weekends and holidays.

You should have had an extra catagory (Both dirt/DH 50/50) as its seem alot of people would have choosen both and your results are not accurate. I would have choosen both. No one is better or worse just a different sets of skills. To have both makes you a much better rider and alot more fun on the bike to be had.
