Daniel Franks' Yeti 303rdhs Stolen

Postby indy on Thu 1/Apr/10 3:35pm

On Thursday morning (April 1) at about 6:15am thieves broke into downhill and BMX racer, Daniel Franks' home in Christchurch and stole his two Yeti 303RDH downhill race bikes.

"In the wee hours of this morning someone smashed their way into our garage at home," Danny's dad Geof Franks explained.

"It was alarmed, but they got away with the new Yeti 303RDHs."

Mr Franks and his family were in Auckland preparing for the New Zealand BMX Nationals and UCI World BMX qualifying races to be held this weekend when the burglary took place.

"Whoever did it knew exactly what they were doing and what they were after," Mr Franks said.

"And probably knew that we were away. The sensor light was redirected away, they had a big crowbar, and they walked in so they could ride away," he explained.

The serial numbers of the two Yeti 303RDHs are 930469M and 930541M. Anyone offered a secondhand Yeti 303RDH should inspect the serial number first (located on the bottom bracket shell) to avoid buying stolen property.

Anyone with information that could help police in their investigation are urged to contact Christchurch South Police on (03) 363 2512.

This robbery follows several weeks of high-end downhill mountain bike thefts in the Christchurch area and mountain bikers are urged to take extra care with their security.

Anyone offered a Yeti 303RDH that they believe is stolen should contact police or phone 0800 YETI NZ or visit http://www.yetinz.co.nz to verify the serial numbers.
