Christchurch To Hanmer Springs 140km Handicap

Postby DerrickN on Sun 7th Mar 8:45pm

Great annual pilgrimage to Hanmer Springs coming up this weekend (Sat 13th March) with the Christchurch to Hanmer Springs 140km Handicap.
Note the extra few clicks on this year's race - we will be doing a bit of a detour at Amberley to join SH1 further north at the Mudhouse (just before the Waipara River) to minimise our time on this busy highway. See detailed maps on the Pegasus website.

http://www.pegasuscycling.co.nz/events/ ... ndicap.htm

Just a few pointers:
Enter on 0832 43615 by Thursday evening please
Be prompt - registrations at Eyreton Hall at 8am
Don't forget to fit your wheel tag (or if you do not have one, make sure you pick on up at registration)

We obviously need a big team of volunteers to help marshal this classic race - email me through the web site or send PM if you can help, or have someone driving up with you who wants to help - Thanks

With a handicap of 140km I could complete this :)

After MTB Nationals then Age Group Nationals I want to nice relaxing weekend so have volunteered to marshal at Christchurch to Hamner. Anyone need a car taken up and will be in one of the early groups so I can get out on the course? Hopefully waving a flag won't be too stressful.

Just noticed the Pegasus Site shows the date as 13 April 2010. Derrick you might want to get corrected ?
Count me in for a wheel tag, still haven't managed to collect mine.

Do you have to be registered to a club to take part?

Be careful with tyre choice for this race - just come to my attention that there is an unsealed section of road works as you enter Hanmer Springs either side of the turn off onto Argelins Road. A junction realignment is underway and is unlikely to be sealed before Saturday and no realistic detour or alternative finish for for us either (No, I am not going to set up a finish on SH7a).
As marks are likely to be together at this stage (only 3km to go) be cautious and give riders a bit more room.
Will update you all at the race briefing.
