Campagnolo Vs Shimano . . .?

Hey: I'm looking at replacing my 53/39 cranks with a compact 50/34 wheelset. Looking around, it seems to me that Centaur and Veloce componentry is as cheap or cheaper than Ultegra and even 105 in some cases.

What do people think of the relative merits of Campag and Shimano?

Are you talking about a full group, or just a crankset and wheelset?

Centaur is great stuff - I have chorus on one bike, centaur on the other, and part of me actually prefers the Centaur.

If you're buying a groupset, you need to get the latest iteration of Centaur. It's the newer lever, but part way through the year Campy introduced a stiffer spring, to remedy the early production ones, which had an overly light and vague feel, often resulting in over shifts.
