Bmx Chain On A Single Speed?

Postby mad_max on Wed 2/Dec/09 8:10pm

Im wanting a white chain for my DJ and have found some cheap BMX 1s on ebay.
I remember trying to use a bmx chain link for my MTB chain and it didnt work.
Will a BMX chain work on my bike?

on a single speed it will be fine, there is two different widths of BMX chain (1/8" and 3/32"), either will work but you are probably better with a 3/32 if your using normal mtb sprockets.

all bike chains are 1/2" spacing, the only thing that changes is the width.

Also check for the length of the actual chain.
Because BMX chains are made for bmx (with small sprockets) they are shorter overall length.

And way way heavier. Can say I see the point of using a bmx chain.

Becasue it is designed for single speed ;)

comes in colours, and you can get a 3/32 that is pretty much the same weight as a mtb chain.

and of course cos you can get half-link chains, ideal for when you discover the ratio you're running is outside the EBB range with a standard chain, plus of course they look cool
