I was playing the car racing game on my phone at the hospital while I was waiting for the nurse to finish with the girl...

I'm pretty much hooked on Oblivion at the moment, with all of the Bethesda Add-ons, plus a whole HEAP of mod's - probably around 3GB by now. Basically the game's so much better than normal - it's like a different game.

My personal favorite mod, is "Martigen's Monster Mod", which adds heaps of additional realistic creatures & variants.Another favorite would be the "Combat behaviour" mod, which allows NPCs and creatures to potentially use different fighting moves, making combat more interesting, varied & challenging. Other than that, for mod's have a look at tessource.net.

Other games - well, I've been meaning to get stuck into STALKER, but I haven't found a lot of time and as a result I haven't made much real progress in the game. I will sit down soon'ish and spend a good couple of hours blasting mutants and other humans as the combat in STALKER is seriously good - I've had some of the best fire-fights ever in this game.

Re: the comment on STALKER's graphics being dated - with the 1.003 update and couple of mod's applied, it's on par with the latest FPS games - and can easily be made better :)

The screenshot below is seriously average in terms of content, but should give you a rough idea, otherwise examine some screenshots on http://stalker.filefront.com/

Eighty plus hours on Oblivion, and nowhere near over it.

Was playing Oblivion about a year ago, put around 35 hours into it, I loved the game, wouldn't mind picking it up again but just dont have time and its a game that requires a lot of time.

I spent a year playing Morrowind and imo that was much better than Oblivion

yeah and I play with all the popular mods etc

Always intended playing that, but this is the first time I've got around the TES. Might have to go back and have a look. Oblivion is pretty glitchy, but the gameplay and depth is just so good.

Yeah. Morrowind had something a little extra that Oblivion lacked :(

Sad, because Oblivion could have been an even more spectacular game than it is.

Let me know when you've clocked up a few hundred more - then you'll be getting somewhere...

I've seen people on the official forums clocking up several hundred without even starting the main quest. I can't recall how many hours I've clocked up - I'll check at some stage soon'ish and remind myself of how much time it's sucked from my life :)

If you need a bit more of a challenge and you're on PC - look into the mod's re: additional creatures, creature levelling and there's quite a few for adding extra roaming travellers / adventurers - they really liven things up and make the game more challenging & enjoyable.

I've been watching the latest Crysis trailer today - the big 3 consoles now look a whole heap worse (although they looked pretty shabby to begin with, but that's besides the point).

Well, for one thing, it had a brothel :D [edit: Brothel AND crackhouse]

Also I think it was more mysterious, and more effort had been put into building the history of the land. The atmosphere was also much darker - browns, blacks and deep yellows vs Oblivion's bright green grass - that made it feel really epic.

Oblivion is still a fucking awesome game, just that Morrowind was (at the time) just that little bit more awesome. Of course, if you played it now you'd think it was fucking ugly...

Most of what you're talking about is all fixable via mod's - if not, fix the portions of it yourself you don't like and release your own mod's.

I would have agreed with you when I first got the game, but now - Oblivion's everything Morrowind was and then some - and it's going to continue to evolve over a LONG time.
