Other companies just don't seem to get it.

I will bet you will give in a buy it :sly:

Re: Videogames: What Are You Playing?

I went into a video shop to see if they had it. They did. I rented it.

Up to 14 "chapters" out of 15. Between about 3pm today and now. And in that time I went for a two hour bike ride, made dinner and watched a movie. And I didn't "rush" to do only the story missions... because, well, the only thing to do in the game is the story missions.

Eventually some super flawed missions made me go "Right, had enough" and I've given up on it. One was a car chase where the two cars following were way overstocked with weapons and killed me almost right as the chase began (within seconds) until I lucked out and they both crashed and I got away after about 30 attempts. The other wasn't so much a flawed mission as a flawed placement of checkpoints, there was a super hard bit right toward the end of a level but the checkpoint before it was about five minutes prior to it, so had to do that shit again and again and again and again. And then, once that mission was over, I died while driving to the next mission and it reloaded with me at that same checkpoint   ... So I gave up on Mafia II. Worth the $9 rental, but I'm glad I didn't buy it. Dissapointing game, some great gameplaym, good characters, good story, but some big flaws, an empty game world and it's way too short.

Cooincidentally, my Czech flatmate (who is some computer programer or something) knows all the guys who made the game

Wow Babs! I have only completed Chapter 4 late last night After two nights playing, I have already tellied up 12 trophies (16%) (on medium difficulty level)

I find the game play easier than expected so far (ie not getting frustrated by repeated failling missions like I did on GTAIV - all though I did manage to complete GTAIV twice {second time not using cheat codes}) What I like about Mafia II is the period it was set in - very detailed, even the old cars have realistic sound effects - the noise the drum brakes make, the whining of the dif etc. I must be getting old as I appreciate the songs of Bing Crosby playing on the radio - no hip-hop or rap crap in that era :) the politically incorrect cigarette advertising of the day and the Playboy pin up collectables ( I don't Playboy was around in the '40s but who cares)

The story line is very linear and it does lack the side stories the GTAIV and RDR have developed. But I have no regrets in purchasing the game and the goodies that come with the limited edition makes it more than just a game, it is a whole new experience of living in the 40's and the 50's as a mob member!

Grrr! over the last 3 nights I have been stuck on Chapter 14 of Mafia II. I know it should be a challenge, but not to the point where you feel like getting a real gun and blasting the TV with it!

At the bit where you go into the warehouse and the dudes are blasting at you with molotov cocktails from up top?

That mission is a cunzor. I got past it, but then died about ten minutes later during general mucking about........ And the game didn't have a checkpoint/autosave at the end of the hard-as bit... And so it reverted back to the save BEFORE the super impossible bit. Highly uncool. Highly highly uncool. So thats where I gave up.

Another bit with shocking balance is where you're driving away from the drug deal gone bad. For some reason the dudes chasing (after the cutsceney bit where you've left the place with no one following, and immediately following the cutscene those two cars packed with guys with SMGs start following you) were so overpowered that they blew me to shreds within seconds. Basically I had to play that bit over and over about ten times until I got lucky and got away to the point that I could stop, get out, take cover and take them out one by one.

Someone really screwed that game up by, like, not actually playing the missions to check that they were all playable.

Last night, I almost completed Chapter 14, I drove the car flat out in there, knocking down one of the gunmen, manage to stay alive and shoot all but two, avoided the molotov coctails, then reversed out at high speed in the car somehow getting thru the closed roller door. I couldn't get back into the warehouse ( not even thru the upstairs office door) I managed to shoot the second last gunman thru the closed garage door (target goes red when lined up) but then found it imposible to to shoot the last one. I tried for over an hour before I finally quit. Surely there must be an easier way.

On the left hand side inside the warehouse door there's a pillar with some boxes round it. I crouched and covered behind that and took them out one at a time.

Hmm. Weird. PS3 or 360 version?

Whatever the case, it's a hella flawed mission.
