Result from the first day show, if you want to be on the podium, you have to do better than a dart throwing monkey. great uncle bulgaria, Rik and Scotty demonstrate that they alone had what it took on day one. great uncle bulgaria has taken a fairly commanding lead. I know it's early days but I hope he stays in first place or drops to last. The gap his excessively long user name causes in the results printout is driving my OCD crazy.

Awesome ride from local boy bobridge today. He's probably riden the gorge road hundreds and hundreds of times and nailed the jump for the finish.
Tomorrow's ride goes past the end of my street but I'm totally out of leave, so I'll be watching at my desk on the computer

The girth of his username is however providing ample wind shield for Scotty and I to comfortably sit on his wheel

wolffman1 wins the day and leaps to the top of the podium from 5th place. Rik drops off the podium but manages to stay ahead of the vorb monkey. scatter is now leading the 4 rider autobus at the back of the field. And I just had to manually shorten great uncle bulgaria's name in the results table.

News from the ground, we passed a downed bmc rider coming down the old freeway after the stage - not sure who but they looked a bit concerned, not an easy place to get ambulance.

It was Campbell Flakemore Article here. Riding back to the hotel from the race finish, what bad luck!

Bugger for flakemore. That descent is mad every year with hundred of amateurs trying to follow the pros and from that article it sounds like the pros are bombing it to keep out of people's way.
Waspman, where on the descent did he fall? There's some cycle path that starts beside the freeway which would be hard to get to, but otherwise it's not too bad.
They found a roadie dead up there last winter. He might have hit a deer or roo which would have walked away.
Tomorrow's final climb isn't as tough as the corkscrew from previous years. It's a steep couple of hairpins at the bottom at maybe 12% and then straightens out and is a long straight drag with the gradient winding down to maybe 7-8% and a flatter section of 4-5% at the end. It's not long enough for the real mountain goats to get away so we may see another group finish without any of the big names having enough hill to force a selection.
The 'town' at the top of the hill is a couple of houses and that's about it. I don't recall even seeing any shops when I've ridden through there.

Good to hear there's another vorber in town.

The crash was on a left hand hairpin, happened well before we went through. Descent was nuts, to many wannabes trying to keep up with the pros but it was fun watching them go past.

I know it. That's my commute that I ride 2-3 times a week. I can get to the cycle path without touching the brakes on a good day, but all those people makes it not a good day. I reckon they'll get police escorts for the team down the freeway soon to prevent this sort of thing happening. I've read one report from someone who said that cadel was going bananas at the punters who cause the crash. 14 year old kid apparently.
They must have over taken him in the lead up to the corner and the kid didn't slow when everyone around him did.
Are you riding the course on Friday?

Scotty and Rik both slink down the rankings while wolfmann1 stands secure on the top step. Only Claude out scored him today and, as a result, joins him on the podium. Meanwhile the vorb monkey continues to demostrate that throwing darts is a viable strategy. Ryda and pushbike rider extend their squabble over the latern rouge for another day.
