1997: first 2 MTB rides at a ski field in Lebanon used as a Mountain Bike Park in Summer.
2005: introduced to Makara Peak Park by a flatmate, ridden from home by Karori Park to Varley's Track where I had to push my bike (an old avanti, no suspensions) another rider there told me:"YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO RIDE IT..." :-)
2006: joined a social riding group. Weekly road rides.
2007: Huffing and puffing up Koru, having to stop several times to rest! Then same with the other tracks to finally reach Makara Peak, an achievement then :-) .
2007: Participated in first biking event: the 32 Km around the bays with the old Avanti of my sister.
May 2007: Purchased a Giant Alias (sold the Avanti for $7 on TradeMe)
June 2007: Registered for Karapoti Classic 2008... joined the Hutt Valley Mountain Biking Club, increased rides frequency. Need to improve a lot in downhills, improving quickly in uphills. Aiming for a sub25 tip track and sub180 Karapoti.
February 2008: 30 min Tip Track G2G on my Giant Alias
March 2008: disaster@Karapoti Classic 4 hrs 21 min, chain skipping from the start, collision with another rider, cramps all the way, high speed downhill crash. Slowly recovering from right shoulder injury.
12/03/08: Purchased the Epic Expert Carbon, still sleeping with it. :-)
It has improved my cruising time up the tip track around 5 minutes. Need to time my racing Personal Best soon.
30/03/08 Hawkins Hill Climb Challenge in 34 minutes and 38 seconds. It means that my tip track Gate to gate time is well under 28 minutes. I still need to time it to post it on the tiptrack leaderboard forum.
