Whoa that just brought back a memory of watching (and feeling through the ribcage and feet) Garth Hogan do a run at Thunder Park in near darkness, we'd never been to see any serious drag racing before and had no idea what had hit us, amazing.

:D Probably.

more to the misery for not taking the camera, there was a really well done old style classic mini, cept the rear wheel arches were huge to accomodate the massive rear slicks, and a very hot V8 under the hood, Thing was hooking the front wheels up on takeoff, and running hard and straight. The dude had done it really well by not messing with the look of the car (other than the rear wheels and a bonnet scoop). cooper770 would have jizzed

only 144MPH? , how much did he slowdown before the end?

Yeah you're onto it, hard to say but I reckon he was on for a low 5 second pass. The car is under 3 years old and is basically the same as any Nitro Funny running the NHRA circuit. He has been running it in Taiwan the past few years. We got really lucky to see him run it today, and push it as hard as he did.

No I wouldn't.......A series + ADO15 shell = Mini, V8 + ADO15 sort of shell = a V8 hotrod.....just saying

Yeah but A series = *yawn*

This thing would mash you back in your seat, and 10 seconds later you would have done more living than you would in a lifetime of fiddling with your A series toys.

It's still a mini in my books. Just a modified one. Not many 'original' minis left if your anal about things.

A Cooper is a modified mini - just sayin

I have always thought a mini would be good with Escort Cosworth 4x4 parts squeezed in :paranoid:

I remember there being a V8 Mini on the drag strips back in the day.

A 'modern' day Topilino Altered.

Even back then there would be some who would get excited by it, yet for others it would not spin their wheels.

say all you like you don't get the point and doubtful you ever will, but that's not my problem.....a Rembrandt is just a painting, but a print of that painting don't make it a Rembrandt....

some miniporn to try and steer this thread away from the usual fate:

went ok at ruapuna a few years ago, seemed to spend alot of time overheating and or going very quickly - in the end the big V8 GTHO gobbled it

I respect clever engineering Colin.....but that doesn't mean I'd want one

I've seen all manner of engines shoe horned into a ADO15 Mini Shell, everything from 13B rotos, to V8, to Hyabusa and even 2.2L twin cam Opel engine with Turbo's and nitrous....and a mid mounted Lancia Intergrale engine, Ive even seen pedal powered, but like I said before, my passion is for original MK1 and Mk2 English genuine Cooper and Cooper S. I've never said as you seemed to claim last time that they are the best car, or even a car with out fault, but they are the cars I own, race, collect and have a lifelong passion for....there's even a picture on the wall above the mantle of me as a 4 year old sitting behind the wheel of John Rhodes works Cooper S with John Cooper showing me the car. I own other cars, even owned a few the 'boys' have drooled over, including an IROC Camaro, Mustang, TR6, TR8, TVR , Monaro but to name a few and currently use a Audi A6 as my daily driver and tow car, all had their attractions and downsides, but like anyone who collects my passion is for genuine original things.

Marvin Turtons car, its the actual car that won the Aussie modified series back in the 70's/80's and hold a class lap record for Barbedello in Western Australia. Its been an ongoing rebuild and development for about 9-10 years now since he purchased it. Its a genuine A series think flange block running a Turbo, forged every dam thing , straight cuts, LSD etc etc. Last time he had at Manfield for the Surgery Intermarques series that I run in he was doing about 1:10's
