Ford stopped making cars in '72 as far as I am concerned

Ive spent about 50 hours a week on a workshop floor for the past 13 years - I have seen a fair bit - not everything, but sadly not much of what Ford build is anything but rubbish now - ok the odd bit makes sense and works well (not often) I had dreams of buying a BA XR8 sometime this year - after working on a few and pricing parts - nah thanks
If you have ever had the pleasure of calling a ford dealership for a price on a part not available aftermarket - its worth it for a hoot.

:eh: Come on Zeph, Ford parts can’t be that bad. I’ve been riding recently with a guy who’s been a parts guy at Ford South Auckland and he doesn’t seem THAT demented

Ha ha Trog, he must be a masochist like the ones here - I am pretty sure they get a big kick out of saying "oh you need an O-Ring, sure - thats $650 ex Belgium 6 weeks - would you like a spare to keep on the shelf?"

I think google has a pretty comprehensive "mondeo / problem" search to peruse - dont get me wrong, they get one out of every 50 right

Personally, I would go for the Mazda - overpriced sure (demand like someone has stated), but aftermarket parts are off the hook and the fact most major lease companies used them - a win win situation

I have a friend in wholesale if you are interested , obviously a bit far to travel but his prices are competitive and sells a fair bit interisland for that reason.

Cheers
:D

I suppose I could go Toyota, they are supposed to be the most reliable cars. But oh yeah our friends bought a brand spanking new Avensis Wagon, figuring that would last them a long time. The whole trans let go after about 25000 Kms, it was some massive sum to replace and Toyota wanted them to pay half (they told them no thanks).
Next up the front light assembly somehow got melted by the bulb (?). OK so that needed replacing and again Toymotor wanted them to pay. But how much should a front light assembly cost? Try $2500 frikkin dollars!

My wife (God bless her) smashed our Libero front guard and headlight at the mall.
The replacement headlight cost me $45. I’m ok with that

Telstar = 626
And a bunch of the parts are interchangeable though. There are a few others that make which are the same chassis.

Any genuine part cost a pile more then aftermarket, thats not just a ford only affair. There are a few aftermarket sources for BA parts now days.
Alot comes down to the number of that model vehicle on the road and also the strength of second hand market has some bearing.
It is something well worth looking into when buying a new vehicle though.

There's also the Ford Escape / Mazda Tribute.
I was more referring to the fact that Mazda is owned by Ford.

Bah, no camera with me today. But Willy White ran his Nitro Funny Car for an exhibition pass, whoa it was the best thing I have seen on a drag strip on NZ soil since Garth Hogan ran his rail for the last pass at Thunderpark way back in '92. For anyone who understands the numbers, it was a 6.04 at 144mph, think about that for a moment...

Truly awesome power
