Motorsport A flat-plane crankshaft version of the VK45DE is used by Nismo for Super GT races with the Nissan GT-R instead of using the GT-R's VR38DETT twin-turbo V6 engine.[1] The VK45DE was previously used in Nissan's 350Z Super GT car, replacing the previous VQ30DETT used in that car in 2007. In race trim, the Super GT VK45DE produces 500 PS (490 hp) and 52 kg·m (380 ft·lbf) of torque.[2] The engine idles at around 3500 RPM and is restricted to the above specified power output. Without such restrictions, the engine is reputedly capable of producing nearly 800 PS (790 hp).[3] Nismo reasons that by using the engine, they eliminate turbo-lag, save weight and generally prefer the torque curve of the atmospheric V8.

and 2 valves per cylinder etc. The only real advantage of retaining them was they had parity in terms of most elements, but Ford and GM don't have comparable production engines now, so who know what they will do.

It will be interesting to see how they will knobble the new contenders (oops - I mean 'equivalency').

I bet $5 its just a GM engine.
New regs in 2013 remember, same space frame chassis, gearbox, diff for all comers with different body panels stuck on.

The more I think about it the more a nissan entry seems a bit weird, its going to cost them bulk ducats to get the engines up to similar spec as the ford or chev donks (they have fucking years of development in them under some pretty tight limits) and to sell more of what?
wait a minute, they already do a 4.5 so maybe not that many ducats after all![]()

I think you'll find that fact the the V8 have been isolated for so long they are way behind the rest of the world
