Tsunami?

Earthquake and tsunami in Chile - tsunami warning for East Coast of NZ, particularly Banks Peninsula.

The Chathams were supposed to get it first and I can't see anything on the Geonet tsunami bouys, but stick your radio on anyway if you're on the coast.

You can see it on the Chatham Island tsunami recorder now. Not too big - it's hard to read but the first wave looks well under a metre. Maybe 40 cm?

Michael Laws should get himself out to the coast.

likely to be bigger than chathams, especially on banks peninsula, cos the bays actually amplify the waveforms. low tide in canty so probably not too much to worry about. ya wouldnt necessarily wanna be on the beach at the time tho.

more than that now, see latest time stamp. thats a massive drop, like ~1.5 m. see it hitting castlepoint and stuff too.

the Rauol Island guages were off line for a second there...

gisborne has dropped a metre below normal.

movement in Chats is about 2 m fluctuation now.
