It's the hackey sack of the teens. What next, whiteboy dreads?

nah, remember things run in cycles - so next it'll be the resurgence of fire poi and bad 90s rave music! :D :paranoid:

As if there was such a thing as good 90s rave music  whiteboy dread slacklining with the whiteboy still attached would be almost as cool as JFK and Haile Selassie in a Lincoln.

Maybe rave music's resurgence is closer than you think! Last time it grew out of the Happy Mondays playing Haicenda club nights in Manchester and this weekend they return for a sold out gig!

I blame Dean Potter - though pissing around 3' off the deck is for wannabes, no high lining to the lost arrow spire, that's more like it

Yeah, dude is pretty impressive. Saw this at the banff festival few years back, very cool

I was getting my ass handed to me on leading a 5.11 crack/slab combo pitch about 7-8 pitches up the middle cathedral (300m odd off the deck) , when a dude literally strolled past soloing the 5.12 next to me. He stopped, traversed in to the pitch I was on, showed me the crux moves, downclimbed, traversed back in and went on his way. There are some freakishly skilled dirtbags in the Valley. But they drop like flies. All it takes is for some unexpected rain, or wind and you end up like dirty Derek. Kinda like downhilling without brakes.

I have decided thaat slack-lining's association with climbing makes it far less appealing to me.

...because climbers are weird. :sneaky:

actually even within climbin there's levels of weird - like boulderers and sport climbers are generally relatively normal and with a bit of work can integrate with society and lead normal live. Trad climbers -not so much, their affection of thrusting bits of their body into any crack they find is hard for normal people to cope with. Then there's off-width climbers (like trad climber with serious masochistic tendencies on top), aid climbers (B&D aficianados), and at the extremely non-functional end you've got mountaineers and worst of all ICE CLIMBERS

I'll second this, sat opposite a guy who'd spend every weekend climbing mountains, scaling ice walls and sleeping in snow caves.

Dude had shifty eyes

Also seemed to constantly wore outdoor wear in an office where everyone else was in suits. He was the full stereo type long blonde curly hair, sunglass tan lines and was vacant when the conversation was anything other than power systems engineering or mountain climbing.
