Just wondering if anyone has linked up the Oparau route(from Pirongia west road) to the Bell track lately?

There is a track marked between the two tracks on 2001 edition topo maps and fisheye(2005), however it is no longer mentioned by DoC or marked on the latest topo 50 series. So I'm assuming it is no longer maintained by Doc and yeah has anyone tried it lately?

I'm thinking of leaving bikes in the bush by the end of the new Te Araroa trail on Pirongia west road, leaving the car at the Oparau route start, heading through to Kaniwhaniwha, camping at the camp site there then heading over the top on the Tahuanui track back to the bikes and riding down the road back to the car.
