Good question that I asked ages ago and never got an answerr...I used to go there quite regularly to stay at my parents, the best I could find was the Cove Road, Tara Road, road riding loop. Shit loads of walking trails (that arent rideable) and stunning scenery..could never work out why there arent any trails around here. Have checked the kennetts book, mapmyride and garmin connect dont show anything offroad. Closest I know of is Glenbervie, Parhaki, and the other rides at Whangarei. Go out and build some? :)

I know there are some up there because i sold a bike to a guy up there and he was telling me about some of the trails in the forestry.

I've heard of some stuff out at Waipu cove but can't find any details or anyone who's been on them. Would be keen to do some building if I could hook up with some locals but I'm not up there enough do anything on my own and keep on top of it, even if I could get permission from someone to use their land.

Anyone know of anything else around Kaipara/Wellsford area?? Trails, jumps, anything really its pretty annoying not having anything to ride when we're up at the Bach... I could learn to surf I suppose but that would just mean I'd suck at two outdoor sports :D

If your at Wellsford there is a shit load in the Dome Valley, both XC epic rides and of course the National Downhill course up Kraack Road. Best to hook up with a local who knows there way around like Clive Wood from Warkworth if your after XC. There are heaps of trails on both the Kaipara side of the dome and the Matakana side of the Dome. On the Matakana side there is the national walkway thats administered by DOC, it is ok to be ridden. I have always started in the hills up the back of Matakana, have done a 2 hour loop in there and I have been told that you can come out at the Dome Valley Tea rooms and at Waiwhu Road or Conical Peak Road in the Dome. Maybe a search on maymyride or garmin might through up some walks in there? :)

not many around mangawhai, black swamp has some metal loops about 15km loop thru pine forest, no tracks, as it is all sand.
waipu cove off the back of Cullen rd to langs beach is rideable but you will have to walk 20%......
there is a little loop off the info centre behind the golf course.......
the coastal walk is a fantastic walk............

CHeers for the input, I'll haver to suss out around Waipu and see what its like, not too bothered about it not being great riding, just be good to get out and do something...

Agree on the walk along the cliff being great though... Its a pretty good run too...just dive into the Ocean when your done...

there is or was, a mountain bike trail in mangawhai forest, adjacent to the beach, near the beach surfers call Forestry. Its basically the south side of Te Arai point.

I believe the Brynderwyn walkways was rideable, thou not sure if still is.

The Atiu creek regional park west of wellsford has mountain bike trails...no idea what they are like though.

Hi There

A couple or so years ago we used to pedal up Cullen Road, other side of Waipu Cove which had a track at the top that took you down into Echo Valley from memory? not full on but an enjoyable ride

Cheers
