16 diggers (and 8 children) braved the heat today and turned up at Living Springs to extend the track. They managed to get the two ends to join and we started work on fine tuning the track. That is the time consuming stuff and we only got one corner half finished!

It was pretty hot so several of us headed to Rapaki Beach afterwards to cool off (and wash off the mud (dust + sweat))

Here are some pics from the day.

Yes I was quite amazed when the young girl holding that spider came wandering along the track showing it off, when it started moving it was nearly as big as her wee palm. Classic.

It was really quite cute. I'd rather have that than the mozzies that were annoying us.

We are heading over again this Saturday (14 Feb).

We got to try out our new rock carrying chain net today

Built the missing section of Skoolz Out, just below the canyon, and then went up Zanes trail doing all sorts of fine tuning. Also started to wire back the vine tunnel to stop you catching your handlebars ;)

Was a good day :)

We're next heading over to work this coming Saturday (21 Feb).

Wanna help? We'd love you to

Re: Tb: Trailbuilding At Living Springs Sunday 1 March

Postby XCguy on Sun 1/Mar/09 8:39am

We are heading over this afternoon (meeting at the Outdoor Camping Centre at 11:30am). We're building the track just below the OCC so literally within 30 seconds walk from where we are parking. Come and make the most of having moist soil to dig

Any queries, call us on 027 3134908 or follow the signs up Bamfords Rd to Living Springs (2km), then around to the left to the Outdoor Camping Centre (a further 1km). Park where our R&R Sport stickered Caldina is and follow the arrows. We'll be there till mid afternoon sometime.

Next planned sessions over there are:

Wednesday 4 March (evening)
Saturday 7 March (morning)
Sunday 8 March (afternoon)
Wednesday 11 March (evening)

Love to see you there :)

Craig and I worked for about an hour and a half in the baking sun thinking we wouldn't make much progress today with just the two of us. But then the calvary arrived - Ashley, Grant, William and Aaron. It was very cool that they would help us as these guys do lots of building in Vic Park so have plenty of their own projects to work on. Thanks heaps guys

We benched some of the track from the Outdoor Camping Centre to the Mississippi. We will continue working on this track on Wednesday evening.

Was good to get out and do something different for a change! We had an awesome ride also. William had a little threesome with his bike and the ground where he was in the middle down zanes which was a good laugh. Just the right level of slippery to be great fun...

If any new people want to join us on Wednesday evening or either day next weekend just let us know and we'll send you a trail map so you can see where we'll be working. There are still quite a few things to do in the next couple of weeks before the the three events on these trails on 21-22 and 28 March so we're very keen for more helpers

The trail we started building today is an open trail that links the OCC (where the event village will be) down to the first forest trail (Mississippi). The section shown below is the non rocky half of this trail. The bit we will do on Wednesday and next weekend will be through an area covered in volcanic rocks that should provide a wee challenge
