I was really impressed with what Graham, John, Andrea, Sam, Anton, Bradley and I achieved today. It was a good session. Some photos from the days effort...

Bet your glad we are building ACROSS this slope and not up or down it. It is crazy steep

We picked up the first batch of signs yesterday to be installed at Living Springs. The forecast if for rain this weekend but if we get a dry spell we might head over and try and begin installing them . Does anyone have a manual post hole digger?

We've just been offered the loan of one for this job. When it comes to Living Springs or the Vulcaniser, if a request is made you have to be super quick if you want to beat Paul Cooper at coming to the rescue :D

We are heading over to Living Springs this afternoon (from about 1 pm to 4 pm). If you aren't on our track building list and you want to come over, follow these directions:

Drive over the Port Hills on Dyers Pass to Governors Bay and continue around the head of the bay. Just past the sign that says Farm Park, turn right in to Bamfords Rd. About 1 km up the road there is a yellow diamond "steep grade" sign. Park past this under the macrocarpas. (No other cars will be there as we are parking somewhere else). Cross the road and go through the white gate. Cross the little bridge and keep going (don't follow the track up the creek). When you get to the cattlestop DON'T cross it. Turn left and walk up the 4WD track for about 200m until you find us in the kanuka on the left. You probably won't be able to see us so call out.

If you want to call/txt us it's 027 3134 908.

Cheers

Rebekah

Graham, Phil, Phil, Andrew, Gavin, Dave, Colin, Craig and I managed to get a great bit of track built before the down pour. No photos because I forgot my camera! We are heading over again this coming Saturday (10th January) so if you would like to join us let us know so we can organise enough tools.

106 different people have participated in this project so far. Do you want to be part of it too?

Re: Tb: Trailbuilding At Living Springs Saturday 10 January

Postby XCwife on Sat 10/Jan/09 5:56pm

The weather was looking a bit dodgy this morning but we put on our wet weather gear and headed over anyway. For a while I thought it might have just been Craig and I (and the kids). It actually wasn't too bad and the day got better and better though the wind did blow dust in our eyes at regular intervals. There was some fantastic lighting on the surrounding hills as the sun poked through the clouds. One by one people arrived and Ross, Karen, Justin, Julia, Bridget, Phil and I continued building the link from the Mississippi to Zane's. Craig was operating the scrubcutter and finished building the kanuka crossing.

Here are some pics from the day

Re: Tb: Trailbuilding At Living Springs Saturday 14 February

Postby XCguy on Fri 16/Jan/09 10:13pm

A group of us headed over to Living Springs last night and it was a beautiful calm, warm evening. XCwife, miniGIANT, rwmcgr and myself installed the first lot of trail signs (yay, finally some signage is in place!!!), Nigel installed Geo Grid on three more of the bridges on Zanes and our chief weed eradicator Paul did lots more spraying of grass, thistles and onga onga.

It looks like Living Springs staff have done some work repairing the pugging damage on Skoolz Out and someone (possibly Living Springs, or was it one of you?) has filled in the approaches to the 3 new MTB cattlestops. It needs some finishing to tidy it up, but it is at least they are all rideable now.

I may head over one evening this coming week (to install some more signs etc) if we can fit it in with everything we need to organise for the Vulcaniser, but otherwise, our next main trailbuilding effort at Living Springs will be Saturday 14 February. We will send out a reminder to those on our trailbuilding email list in the week prior.

If you are keen to come and help out please let us know at xc@paradise.net.nz and we can keep you up with the play

Building forest singletrack on Christchurch's doorstep... wanna be part of it?
