Some tracks yes. Some of the less banked tracks have roadster grades. Especially for junior riders.

I agree with slackboy unless you intend on riding Nationals and being competitive you definitly don't need all that flash gear, unless you have money to burn. I won plenty of Nat medals and never had Zipp wheel or discs etc. Most people lend their discs come the big events I just had a shitty $500 one of trademe did the trick.
But the mavic eclipse wheels that come with Pistas are pretty good anyway, ideal for training and racing.

Gear doesn't seem to make as big a difference as it does on the road, light wheels make a huge difference going up hills etc. But track I don't think gear is so important...

I am keen to race at the Wellington track this summer too and picked up an Avanti Pista on sale.

The stock specification looks fine and I haven't upgraded anything except the tires/tubes and a set of Miche cogs. That is aside from a faulty set of FSA cranks that the distributor generously replaced with a set retailing for more than the cost of the entire bike.

On (rare) dry days at present the shaded western side of the track appears too slimy/slippery to ride on. I see the season kicks off in late October with a couple of weeks orientation but do any Wellington regulars have any idea when the track can safely be ridden on again? I am guessing by mid-late September?

Rock ya fashion wheels, and when you start beating me, buy them then.

I just personally think that dropping that amount of c-ash on wheels when learning and playing is just silly.
Buy your sisters kids some rad pressies instead
Who cares what he runs? Whether or not you might be able to beat him has fuck all to do with it -if he can afford to and he wants to why shouldn't he bling out? :satan:

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh

If he was racing on the invercargil track, then by all means spend tons on flash kit. Bit IM(not so)HO buying zip 1080's and a disk to race at Hataitai Velodrome, which is rough as guts, especially when your only just starting out and not even sure what type of racing he really wants to do is pointless. It makes far more sense to use some wheels that he already has. And being a fashion biker PinkMaggit quite likely allready has some wheels. And knowing his penchant for lots of bikes, he prolly has more than one.

I actually agree with all that, but when you politely ( :0 ) pointed that out he said he wanted it anyway. That's when you started the smack talk... :D

My point is that his ability or lack of ability to beat you has zero to do with anything - why should he wait until he's beaten you to buy anything? :eh:

My suggestion is a set of Campy Pistas, deepish section and pretty rugged. Save the disc and zipp type front for Wanganui and Invers. Equipment choice on fashion or ability, WTF!!!

Mental note, lower Oli down the list for Bushlove membership. Not understanding smack tak is a big negative.

I don't care who is faster than me on the track. My point (weak, useless and ful of smack) was more that if he's not beating my fat arthritic has-been arse, he's not really going to get any real performance gains from those wheels. Sorry for trying to stop someone from spending money unnecessarily
