It's a piece of Automotive Art, for sure and incredibly rare.. But yeah an old race car deserves to be taken out and given a chance to stretch it's legs every now and then. It would be a crime to have it just sit around and be whacked-off over by some rich fool for the rest of it's life.

it's cool enough that Nick Mason owns one - so definitely worth the $$$. Hell, if people freak about 4.5M on one car they'd totally spazz at what his collection is worth (given the amount of $ he's made from his 'day job' I doubt he thinks it's a lot of money)

at least us mere mortals can listen to it being driven in anger on the accompanying cd to 'into the red'

Guys that buy these sort of car generally do race them, or at least put a tame racing driver into them. Its quite a big thing in Europe. Every year at the Monaco GP they have a race just for these sorts of machines, often driven by past and present F1 drivers. I went to several events whilst on the UK and Europe a few years ago. The best one was Goodwood Festival of speed. Some truly amazing cars been driven and driven hard.
