A taxi driver up with the road code? Have we slipped into some alternative universe? :paranoid:

He's a born/breed Kiwi....and incredibly distant relation...does that help?

No. I wasn't making a racial call, just an observation from many, many years of watching taxis operate. :(

You can only ride alongside another cyclist or moped. You must not ride alongside a car, truck or other motor vehicle.

That would seem to indicate you are allowed to ride two abreast.

You are. FFs bro is just justifying his anti-cyclist stance.

Coming from yet another ill informed commercial road user, I get sick of it at times and it's even worst that I know there are a couple in our fleet as well :(

It's amazing how many times I've heard motorists claim cyclists are breaking the law by riding two abreast - sometimes they even believe me when I tell them we aren't. These same people wouldn't think twice about overtaking another car over the yellow lines on a poor visibility sweeper near Te Horo. :hmmm:

That sounds like a contradiction in terms!! No disrespect to your brother in law meant by that - just that in Wellington the taxi drivers seem to write their own laws especially about parking/ standing/ waiting and traffic lights

Maybe the photo was posed, maybe they were wanting to create an image of clean green transport speading out to enjoy the freedom of the empty road in the clean green scenery. What about the photo of the lady with the brolly - that is insanely dangerous.

 Whenever I need important legal advice, I'll ask a taxi driver. Lawyers generally have a good understanding of the law, but taxi drivers are far cheaper.

They're also a provider of the odd adrenalin rush - try going along the motorway in the wrong direction, or along a footpath for 100 metres or so. Yep, in Wellers the taxi drivers are seat sniffing gimps that are so poor at directions, that I woudn't be surprised if they stuff their sandwich up their own arse 50% of the time. I had one soooo drunk, he drove along Aotea Quay with his headlights on full, on the wrong side. Bonus was he was chopped enough to not tell the difference from a fiver to a twenny.
