Just taking their site offline and making it look as if it is a temporary technical problem should exert a fair bit of pressure. More than that is not fair, it is a public shitfight which does no credit to either party.

But (and it’s a big butt) if they were renting a physical address and not paying their rent the landlord would have every right to kick them out and that is what has happened here.

Personally I feel if a business sends out the high-order ethics and principles message, they should abide by it or change the PR spin to be more honest.

something like this message seems appropriate in the AboutUs page: "if you don't pay us, rather than terminate our service, we will get you back by altering your brand message on our website to one of non-payer, and you can do nothing about it because we have the power"

Regardless of who is at fault in the bill-paying dispute, it seems sad that one Chch-based firm is sticking it to another Chch firm for poor payment. No doubt Singular Cycles is having liquidity issues as well due to the earthquakes, and a bit of leniency between chch-ers wouldn't be a bad thing, especially while they're looking for all NZ-ers to help them out and John Key is even holding a begging dinner in Aus.

Who is to say that the hosting company isn't facing hard times too? Internets hosting costs money... If they can't afford to pay their own bills (quite possible atm), then why should they take an additional hit because another Christchurch company can't pay theirs?

we dont have any idea what is going on between the two parties mentioned.

But we do know that Egressive has used its position as a web host to obliquely diss Singular.

for Singular there is no possibility of reply.

this is bullying.

They could easily rid themselves of the message. They could change their DNS settings so that they don't point at their old, unpaid for website. Or they could pay their bill.

Cutting off service because someone hasn't paid their bill isn't bullying... it's business.

Aside from the excellent Blackadder and Simpson references, this thread is chock-full of retardedness. How some people manage to breathe while while doing something else at the same time astounds me.
