trackers feel pretty 'real time' when you zoom right in and watch them clicking along the roads... :D

Ollie's closing!

Yeh... that is just software predicting where it thinks they are moving. The trackers only update in 10 min intervals and don't always update. Switch off "predicted mode" and you will just get the last location the tracker updated.

Paihiatua track coming up just after Palmy. That will put some hurt into the legs!

I'm guessing that Ollie has let the hurt monster in the door already :satan: .

The front runners will receive a reasonable tail wind today, though Martinborough to Featherston will be a b***h. They will along the Hutt River Trail

Huh, I dunno - I rode over to Featherston and back yesterday. I swear there is no such thing as a tailwind over there... cruising at 40kmh one moment, make a 30 degree turn, and BOOM! grovelling into a blustery head/cross wind at 18kmh  But yeah, mos def a roaring tailwind along the rivertrail

Only a short ride to get to the ferry for them today... Looks like they might be there in the middle of the day. Onto the 2pm sailing?

From where they are now, no more than 1.5 hours to ferry all slightly down hill with a blustery tail wind

So Ollie & Anja are sitting on the wharf in Welly wondering who will get there to join them on next ferry. Seems like Seb, Matty & Steve have all fallen off the pace a bit as they close in on the end of Te Ika a Maui leg. Getting across the straight without a big wait is likely to be the breaker for aspirant record setters.

I'm in awe of anyone who can tackle this thing, but especially so Anja - when did a female last go pedal stroke to pedal stroke with males in a test of extreme endurance & strength ??

A few months ago, at least - Lael Wilcox in the 2015 Tour Divide, then again a couple of weeks later in an ITT effort - pretty amazing!

Speaking from limited experience, distance events become more of a mind game after a certain level of fitness is achieved - having the right mindset and confidence can be the difference between 200/day and 340/day. Anja's doing an awesome job - hope she's having fun crushing it out there!

Yes, so exciting seeing a female up the front, I've never seen this in any form of cycling before at elite level.

However, don't loose heart girls, in the sports of ultra-running (100 mile plus) and marathon swimming the girls not only give the boys a run for their money, but beat them sometimes :D

Runners World wrote:...what is it about a women's physiological, or, psychological make-up that makes it possible for them to compete with the men—sometimes beating them altogether—in the sport of ultrarunning?

"With ultra endurance running, women have a huge advantage simply because they're smaller," says Jason Koop, personal coach with Carmichael Training Systems and ultrarunner. "As the course is harder, it's a bigger and bigger advantage."
Koop explains that it's not so much an advantage to be a woman (a small woman) on the ascents, because men, physically, have more developed cardiovascular systems. "Men's hearts are bigger. Their lungs are bigger," he says.

"But the descents—like the 36,000 feet of descending at Hardrock—take less of a toll on a smaller person's body. There's less eccentric work with the legs. Over the course of time, as descents add up that's a huge advantage."

"The harder the race, like Hardrock, or the extreme heat of Badwater, the better women seem to do," he adds...

What a machine. Sounds like Anja is going to have a snooze in an open house. Olly and Seb are steaming on. They came through a good 40 minutes before Anja.

He's riding with Ollie, but his tracker crapped out yesterday morning.
So it's Australians in #1 and # at the moment :satan:
