Yeah pretty much.

But looking at the Nissan line-up, the only 4 door car thats a 'family' car is the Maxima, so I guess they will run a nissan v8 engine with maxima 'body'.

Remember its in the new COTF format, similar to the Nascar series. Not sure I like it, but good to see other manufacturers getting stuck in.

The larger infiniti branded sedans they sell in the us and elsewhere would be an option

I am all for it. The Nissan will be good to see. Hopefully with the same 'Jack Daniels' sponsor they currently run on the Commodore thereby tempering the anger of redneck boguns.

So a shell plonked on a standard chassis with the engine being the only 'real' difference between manufacturers?

Pretty much, sadly. I think they should have gone in the other direction, back towards more stock production cars. But thats just me.
