As a confirmed fatty I will second the delicious Patricia's pies from Island Bay. The best I've had.

If you're in the CBD, there is a little place called Margie's, on Post Office Square.

I think they bake their own, having a sneaky suspicion they're based out in St Rathmore.

BUT their Steak and Kidney pie is AMAZEBALLS!

Dollar dairy pies

Pro: they cost a dollar
Con: there are at least two big suppliers. One supplier, the biggest I think, is pretty bad.

Recommended: Curletts Road dairy. ($1.20)

The best service station pies have to be Mobil steak and cheese...

Pak n Save petone won pie of the year again this year and I have to say (if you can get them when they're fresh) they are bloody outstanding. Not too hot, quite salty filling (which I like) and flaky but not too flaky pastry....

  ;) :o :satan:     :alien: :paranoid: :( :sly:  :D

As far as packet pies, you can't go past Mrs Macs but I actually really like the terrible bacon and egg Irvines pies. The soggy, microwaved-ness that a dairy warmer gives suits it to a tee.

Seconded.

Little place in Picton had wicked pies. Moroccan lamb was smashing. Granted after 10 years, I could do a BP steak and cheese and be happy.

I'd love a Jimmy's pie, haven't had one for years. The bakery on the way over to Wainui is good, although I don't think I've actually had a pie.
I once voted for a Chch city council candidate who was standing on a single issue platform, no peas in meat pies. Pretty sure he didn't get enough votes to get his $200 back.

Picton bakery pies are rather good. I particularly rate their ginger slice.
And the bakery/lunchbar in wainuiomata is definitely worth stopping at for a pie, probably better than Picton. (though their coconut rough was ick!)

Had a pie from the lunchbar in Karori mall today. Disappoint - lots of weak gravy, with a few quality chunks of meat. 5/10
