It was XCdaughter's first time up Rapaki last night too. XCguy was a pretty proud dad

was that you guys with the dog, and the two girls had gone down a little ahead of you? They really motivated Otis, seeing them.

Nope, that was the Donnelly's + XCdaughter.

I was "racing" very very slowly :D

Thanks! I've got till the middle of August to brace myself - but its all pretty exciting & daunting/challenging (in a cool way).

Almost my first thought was " my DMR has funny sized-frame tube sizes. Will be difficult to fix half-bikes/ top tube seats to it"

with shim tagalong attaches to seatpost of our DMRs no problem! :)

And once futurechild is big enough, just use an old bikeseat and a length of tire tube to attach seat to top tube... (see full description in one of my posts above somewhere)

Stop thinking and go riding.
You are a ways off being able to do anything riding wise. Trailer would be the first step, you will need to ride fire roads or double track style paths to avoid tipping over said trailer.

We bypassed the trailer stage and went straight to putting the scone grabber onto a bike with a wee ride (front mounted baby seat, between rider and the bars). She was all good and loving it at 6 months. Which, as it happens, was 6 months ago  the little monkey is 1 in a few days WTF?!?

i found they sort of get into a holding pattern around 3 til 5 where they dont change that much. at the moment i feel like my 4yr old has always been 4...

whereas my 7 yr old, majorly different from when he was 5 or 6.

I noticed something completely unexpected has recently happened before my eyes, and weirdly I never saw it coming.
Our kids (rightly or wrongly) have all been in full-time daycare from under 12 months old, as we both work fulltime.
My son (our firstborn) is quite the dominant character, noisy, bossy, knows best, etc etc.
#2, a girl, has always been the quiet one, happy to play by herself, has a habit of telling stories to herself, and has always come across as being quite reserved, and a bit shy.
Last September our son started school, and I only really started to notice over the Xmas break but #2 is really going through a transformation. She sticks up for herself, she is confident and self-assured, and I have been amazed on an almost daily basis lately how determined she is to push her limits and try new things.
She has been a regular spectator at the BMX track for the past 18 months watching her big brother riding and racing, but in the last month her development has been nothing short of astronomic on the bike. She rides it every day at every opportunity, and cries when I say it is time to leave the track and go home because we are running out of daylight.
She has been racing in the '5 and unders' at the local clubnights since mid January, and its at the point where Im seriously considering entering her for the Nationals at Easter, where a new class has been created for '4 and unders'.

I only just worked out in the past few weeks that perhaps the changes have been due to her big brother not being around her all day at daycare. It could be just a normal developmental thing of course, Im not all hung up on fiding out why, its just really amazing to watch, and she makes me immensely proud.

Yeah its a wild concept, changes to the Nats format have been attributed to NZ holding the World Champs in 2013. Cant say I agree with a lot of the changes, nor the timing in announcing the changes at the end of January, but I digress...
