I don't let any preconceived ideas determine what I do and don't like - instant coffee (with sugar and milk, naturally) to me is an entirely different drink to a doppio, so it's as valid a choice as a cup of tea, a glass of fruit juice or a Coke. If someone asked if I'd like a coffee I'd always go for the X-Blend over the Greggs, so it's not like I'm a complete philistine.

I like riding rooty technical back country singletrack

Doesn't mean I wont enjoy slumming it around Makara Peak if there isn't a helicopter waiting to whisk me to the top of the some special place

Yeh I don't mind the instant either. Cheap and cheerful stuff.

I also like those instant milk-coffee drinks like what come in the sachets. Totally different to a "proper" cup of coffee, but they're quick and tasty. They're kind of like the McDonalds cheeseburger of the coffees.

Another preposterous clam: That one should live within rigid boundaries and not be adaptable or open to new things.

it's almost as though they never drink instant, so you'd say to say, one of your friends parents "oh no, i don't drink instant"

Sure, my first coffee was instant.
But after discovering espresso its hard to go back. Like mcdonalds, I'd only consume it if desperate. And since I have a coffee shop downstairs I barely contemplate the espresso out of the machine at the office.
Makara peak/rooty technical singletrack would be like different brands of espresso to me. Most riding is good riding.

I'd drink tea when espresso isnt available. Personal choice. Some eat mcdonalds frequently but the idea of it I find fairly distasteful.

That's exactly my point. It's totally okay to not like something - I don't like lots of things! - but it's preposterous to suggest that someone shouldn't like something if they do like it. We're all different with different likes and dislikes.

That's because you are an aspirational consumer who likes to project the quality of your character by your purchasing decisions. You've been sold a product the same as the MacDonalds customer, only difference is yours is more expensive. :)

Also, I had a Big Mac the other day. It tasted good.
