Out of all the euro bikes I would have to go for a 916.Muz wrote:Datsane wrote: Is it just me or has the 999 lost the thump that the 916had
Nope, it ain't just you at all. I think the 888 sounds "musclier" than any of the 916/996/998 range (by musclier, I mean a throatier soundy exhaust note) and the 749s & 999s don't quite have the same tone at all - it's like they've slighted strangled it. The 916 range have a great noise! Damn I wish I owned 1!
My little stroker's upset a couple of 749 owners by being louder than them and they were both running open mufflers (although my bike admittedly sounds like a stupidly loud chainsaw running NOS)and I'm definitely a LOT louder than a stock 999....kinda sad really when Japanese 2 strokes are louder than Italian Superbikes.
I've always loved being thumped in the chest with the bass from a good sounding Ducati's exhaust. Best I've heard to date (in person), was Robert Holden's last race bike @ Motorrad - it shook every single tool in the workshop in time to its idling freq. whilst sitting on the work-stand and I mean EVERY tool - then when the mechanics started to warm it up properly - holy cr@p - it was like someone had hooked up a jackhammer to the building's foundations. Seriously cool and I had a non-motorcycling friend with me who basically stood there and shook in fear
I might settle on a trumpy dayota tho
Damb thats got to be rather loud and raw, where do I get one

The guy at 1.30 odd that rides it out legand.
