The funniest ones are groms who want to run short cranks cause thats what the pros run, but the cranks arent acctually any shorter, just the hole drilled a few mm shorter

Some are shorter some are not. Shorter also means you have more pedal clearance.

Aren't Vpp's defined by the linkages rotating in different directions?
So it's not a vpp-just a floating pivot point which has been in use since about '96.

Actually the lapierre links do rotate in opposite directions so it is a vpp by that definition.
