I figured as much. ;)

Even race clinchers don't need to be 120psi - just relax a bit and all will be well. :music:

But, but, but... All the advice I've gained over my adult cycling life has told me to ride 120 and it says to fill them to 120 on the tyre.

That's 80s advice and outmoded thinking.

And you would notice it if it's 100 or less, but it only feels worse because of what you are used to - give it a while and you will love it. Read Slumdog's link, and know that info is backed up by experts from Continental, Shwalbe, Tour magazine and most knowledgeable industry and racing pundits.

Will resist the urge to top up when they go down over time then i guess and see how it goes.

I don't race with gator skins, they're only on my training wheels ;)

I top up to 120 on my rear (unfortunately thats what I should be acccording to the chart - at my weight . . . . :paranoid: )

I'm around 110kg and rarely pump a tyre more than 110psi and find that's plenty in all conditions.

One tyre to rule them all

Can anyone guess, in my 12 laps of the lake, which tyre I was using when I got my only flat? Anyone?

Here's a Gatorskin that blew out :(
It looked fine on the outside.

Glad I had my tyre liner in there to stop the tube blowing aswell :)

I haven't given up on them - I'm riding another one.

I haven't read the article that Farm put up, but does it address the theory of road contact and friction = slowness?

You are clearly sceptical, so here's another article that addresses your contact patch worries.

...the more flexible, soft, and springy a tire is, the faster it will roll down the road. This is why a lower air pressure than the old Conventional Wisdom proves faster (although we’d now call it "appropriate" pressure).
