Total distance 50.6 kilometres
Starts in the main street of Taumarunui outside the railway station at 9am Sunday 22nd October You head north along State Highway 4 for 10km then turn off onto Opotiki road. A narrow metal road which climbs to 560m (Taumarunui is 171m) in about 8km through native bush. About 11 km up the road, turn left onto a track on Porritt’s farm, a short climb to summit and then a fast 4k downhill ride down a farm race way to Aramahoe road past the Porritt’s homestead and woolshed. Then a moderate 4k climb followed by a short but steep down hill section onto The Prestage’s Farm. Then an undulating climb through the forest to the top of the Kururau Hill. From there all down hill approx 8 km to the finish in Taumarunui outside the R.S.A. in Marae Street

This is a medium to hard course so a reasonable standard of fitness is necessary. As parts of the course is on private land it will not be available for practice.

Honestly I had no idea till I googled it, never been there and if I don't do this race probably never will.

You can get to Taumarunui going North or going South,

There's this sheila in Refreshments and she's pouring cups'a tea,

And I'll love that flamin' shiela till I'm up and gone and dead,

Now you can get a job in Wellington or get a job up North,
But you can't in Taumarunui though you try for all you're worth.
If I want to see this shiela I've got to take a train,
Get ten minutes for refresments then they cart me off again,

Well they took me on as Fireman on the Limited Express,
Add I thought that she'd be Jake but now she's all a flamin' mess.
That shiela wouldn't take t' me: I thought she'd be a gift,
But she's gone and changed her duty hours and works the daylight shift,
in Taumarunui...
