The Spring Challenge is a women's adventure race. Teams of 3-women complete a 6-hour or 12-hour course. The team must travel together through a rafting challenge, mountain bike section and hiking stage. The exact course is not released until event briefing on the 25th. Teams must navigate their way through the course using a map and compass. In 2007 over 300 women took part in the Hanmer event, in 2008 600 women participated in the Kaikoura version.
