suse really enjoyed the open day - in a 'I'm so glad I'm not racing this' kind of way. And when we talked to Mark Inglis Mrs when we were out marshalling she seemed to have enjoyed having a blat on the track sat too!

Just so as no one is spreading gossip out there.. you must have been talking to Jerry Inglis' future mother in law not Mark Inglis Mrs and yes I loved Saturday apart from the messy daughter. Had thought I might race Sunday but the uphills kill me and I would have got in peoples way I'm sure so opted to do extra on Sat.
Thanks to all you track builders and organizers...It is an amazing buzz to ride that at my age!! :D :D
And Clarky I cleared some broom & gorse last night from lower down on Mt T

Yeh, some guy blew a tyre/smashed a rim above us at Boars nest. Sounded a bit like a shotgun!

He was totally fine, but the bike was not! :0

I think that was Simon Binney - don't know where he is from - his wheel looked pretty mangled. What did he hit?

Straight into a tree I think?? Did not actually see it happen or the aftermath... just heard it all from down a little in the Boars nest...

I messed up my line on one of my laps there. Came in under the tree root on the bank instead of going above it and very gently clipped a tree on the left. Recovered well though, just wasn't as smooth as the other laps. Enjoyed following one of the r&r boys down there too - think it was my 4th lap. I let him go past at the top then jumped on his tail for the techy stuff :)

Was that the duck inbetween the two trees just after the marshal and first aid?? Apparently on practice day there were a number of people collected one or other of the two trees! One guy even ended up swinging from one...

I bottomed the dakar xc out front and rear thru there on practice day - which proves my ability to pick lines is non-existent

like any good dirt roadie, my solution was NOT to ride a better line - instead just put pressures ups :satan:

I have just posted up a few pics on the South Island XC cup gallery... http://www.vorb.org.nz/photos-album-2660.html. Some were taken by Nigel who took my camera for a walk while I was getting video footage. Let me know if you want any high res originals.

You should ask Nigel about his tree swinging effort... ;)

I think his excuse for that one was that he "got distracted by the first aider sitting on the chair beside the track just before the tree" :D Sounds like a few people brushed those trees on the Saturday - especially those with wide trailbike bars. How was it on Sunday - you were at that spot in the avo weren't you Zane?

I saw that happen - the guy came over the roots before the corner, overbraked on the front and didn't get his back wheel down, so ploughed into the tree on the outside of the corner still up on the front wheel! Massive explosion, I thought he'd blown a shoulder, but it was just the front wheel blowing up, because he hit the tree straight on rather than clipping it with the bars. When we told him that he'd had his back wheel fully in the air since the roots, his response was 'Yeah but that's how I practiced it!'
