Stink - I can't make this rescheduled date. It clashes with a Makara Peak Supporters work party at Karori Park...

This is the Kennett Brose Wellignton Short Course champs. 1992 by my reckoning.
A full lap of tip-track and red rocks.

The only person sporting suspension (of any kind) was Deon Boonzaier and he owned a bike shop!
I can recall the following faces, from the left...
Mark Hearfield, Craig Starnes, Grant Maud, Rick Proctor, Deon, myself, Andrew Meo, Geoff Notman, a Zawodny? Dave Abbot and Peter Hill.

The attached results are not for this race, but the one they held the following year in 1993.
Jeff

PS. if Marco was a vet then, what is he now? Campbell Wilson is a Junior I see!

Great Photo Jeff, still sporting the tash I see.

LOL, I see Jon Waghorn only beat Marco by 3 seconds..

Marcos is in excess of 120 now, still going strong.

Impressive list for sure. Geoff Notman was pretty quick back in the day! He's still riding the same sort of bike too... Don was another name that leapt out at me on the list, as well as Jonny's, Roadworks' very own Dave Hicks in there too, and Alister Rhodes of Karapoti fame, not to mention Wheels!

Actually, you can see Donald in the background there in that photo.

Geoff Notman was the envy of us all with his Merlin hard-tail with Manitou bumper forks! He wouldnt have had it in that photo.
Hes probably got more suspension in his current rig.s front wheel!!

Loving that pic!

Jeff - When did your top lip last see the light of day!

Good to see campaigner Waghorn in there. I spent ages trying to pick Marco in the pic, damn it.

That's Wheels in the Carrera top - he munted his front wheel and walked most of Red Rocks, the poor bugger. Classic pic, Jeff - cheers!

Shit yeah - 41 minutes for the loop. With a 22 minute TT and 12 minutes down to the beach that only leaves 7 minutes to get back round the coast.

Might give it a crack tomorrow morning

Unfair advantage. Not only did they not have your wagon wheels, but none of them rolled in Bushlove Racing jerseys. You can deduct 2mins from their win time for the wagon wheels and 20mins for the BLRT Powersheath (Tm) Jersey.

I can't remember how far it is from the descent exit to the carpark, but isn't 7mins pretty quick? The TT would only be to the turn off to RRocks, but then they started at the beach so 22mins would to the turn off would be fast. Only the top athletes would be close to that Monoshanks ;-)

All sounds crazy to me!

My sense is it's a pretty awesome time for that loop. I wonder if the Red Rocks track was super smooth back then? In any case, those oldies were hauling to get round that quick. Might be fun to organise a reunion race at some point!

Trudat... I know it's about 2:30 from the beach to the tip track though, so if you can do a 21 - 22 minute TT climb (S2S of course) it would work out about right (Cos the RR turnoff is about 1:20 short of the seal). Remember, I descend like I'm riding a wheelchair down a flight of stairs, so perhaps for me the 40 minute mark might be pushing it! I know you can really smash it round the beach though, so who knows. I should have a skid tomorrow and do a couple of laps I reckon.

When I did it in '94 we started at the bottom of Murchison Street - we had to ride up it to just above where Domanski Cres is now, then back down and up the Tipper, down Red Rocks and finishing just south of the quarry.

Prizegiving was at the Kennett's family home in Island Bay.

Handy... cheers for the info! :paranoid:

Thinking about it, it's actually a great wee training loop - a good climb(!), a fun and varied descent (With a couple of wee pinches thrown in) and a smash back along the flat
