A smart decision. The waiting around at the top for everyone to finish (or even waiting to start at the bottom) wouldn't have been very pleasant for anyone. The descent after the race would have been sketchy as all hell for the roadies too!

I'd manned up and put my lycra on this morning - missing a race that I'd planned to do just because of the weather seemed too wussy - but it was probably the safer option to can it.

Would've been a great start for the roadies though! We'd have flown up Happy Valley road.

Up Todman was fine, but once you started the climb to the windmill that southerly was biting hard and up the top by the airport radio shack had to hold on for dear life from the crosswinds. Max fun though.

A full lap of tip-track and red rocks.

The only person sporting suspension (of any kind) was Deon Boonzaier and he owned a bike shop!
I can recall the following faces, from the left...
Mark Hearfield, Craig Starnes, Grant Maud, Rick Proctor, Deon, myself, Andrew Meo, Geoff Notman, a Zawodny? Dave Abbot and Peter Hill.

The attached results are not for this race, but the one they held the following year in 1993.
