Spikes Planted On Urewera Tramping And Mountainbike Track

Postby kiwi_zg on Mon 30/Aug/10 11:51am

John Sutton, Conservation Department Rangitaiki area manager, said the improvised road spikes were found buried on a tramping and mountainbike track near the Okahu Valley access road, which has become the centre of a land rights protest in Te Urewera National Park. :(

That sucks. What do trampers and riders have to do with ownership of the land? Do they really want to seal it off so no-one can enjoy it? :(

and that the spikes are on an access road, not on the tramping/biking track like the title of this thread suggests.

I have it on good local authority that they are lying when they say that. And also that "protestors" is actually a euphemism for "protectors of pot patches".

So , the issues are mounting, 1080, recreational user access, "koha"s from commercial operators, is it all of these, or one. I'll be interested to see what happens from the meeting.

Cattle rustlers!! Is this a real issue in NZ ? Farmers please respond.

Perhaps the protestors know this because they were the ones out for a midnight snack?
