South Canterbury Rides

Postby tcr on Fri 14/Dec/12 11:41am

Spending some time in South Canterbury (Tekapo area) over Xmas and was wondering if anyone knows some good MTB tracks? Anything from 1 to 8 hours. I've got Simon's book and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot around there...

Any advice appreciated!

Not sure how far you want to travel to ride. There are the two valleys at the head of the Lake Tekapo (Godley and Macaulay) (mostly riverbed riding), plus a few others on here >

If you ride the A2O cycleway from the bottom of L Pukaki up the east side to the start opposite Mt Cook would give you a 90km+ ride.
About 60kms away is a very good mtb ride behind Twizel, the Dusky trail and out to Flanagans Pass
70kms east, is the Raincliff Forest where there are purpose built mtb single tracks.
Could give you a few more with a little bit more traveling.
