Snow Was A Lot More Fun When I Was A Kid

Postby Scotty on Wed 8/Jul/15 9:49am

When I was young I thought it was f****** awesome but these days, I care not for this weather

1. I live on a massive hill in Dunedin. The founding fathers in all of their wisdom showed scant regard for topography and simply superimposed a street map of Edinburgh on top of it. Smart. Fortunately I have a Hilux, unfortunately that means even if I take the risk of using it for its intended purpose, if I have a bingle I will end up as one of those ignorant 4WD owners who thought he was better than the non 4WD'ers on this news. Fuck that.

2. Snow costs more. Energy costs lots, Dad used to roar at me for leaving the doors open on a cold day and leaving the lights on when I wasn't in the room. I get that now.

3. Looking after the kids. I pay lots to send my kids to daycare so I can work. When it snows, I can't.

I'm sure there's more but I'm too busy looking angrily out the window and shaking my fist at the white stuff that is falling...

Chill out man!

It could be worse. You could live in Auckland...

I want it to snow, then I can stay at home in my sleeping bag all day

Do you know what, I had completely the opposite reaction when I opened the curtains and saw (an admittedly very light dusting of what turned out to be just small hale stones) white on the ground this morning.

Even in middle-age the sight of snow brings nothing but happy memories of the stuff. Come on, even falling over or crashing your car is comedy gold (so long as no-one dies) in the stuff.

Yes, but you have no spawn... I have a sneaking suspicion that much of Scotty's anger is derived from this point... :sly: :D

I hear you Scotty, but :music: do you wanna build a snowman??

I am amused at the 'tards on the Canterbury Weather Updates page - "OMG, it didn't snow that much, I'm gutted"

Anyhoo. There was snow on our roof/lawn etc this morning. Then when I was back home mid-morning, it was snowing again (my first thought was, as I was walking up the stairs, "dude, you've got a dandruff problem" )

We went hunting for snow this morning. Found a small patch - but had to ride a fair way to get to it!!

Scotty! I have JUST the thing for you.

It's called a rocking chair. What you do is, you put it on your front porch and rock back and forth shaking your fist at the world!
