Still lots to figure out with course - but it will be marked and ride-able before race day.
It will feature all the best of the Whaka trails we can pack in. It will be challenging OK - it's the WORLDS!

Crap, I am 33-18 ... Can't find a 20 freewheel so it looks like about a 30 front will be needed ... thems is long, steep climbs

a good shop will be able to source you a freewheel in 20T, if your crankset is a standard 4 bolt one, you won't get a 30T to fit

Can't find a 20T freewheel anywhere. Front is a 5 bolt and both Surly & Blackspire do them I think.

Mel found a 21 or 22 easy enough. But with 10 months to go I wouldn't start looking for a bail out gear yet.
And for the sake of one ride its a waste of money.

Meh - if it was 10 years I would still be looking for a bail out gear :D It will be in October and that is usually a wet month. I don't mind being DFL - I just prefer to be DFL riding and not walking. Of course, buy then I will hopefully be sub 100k and not breaking chains so often.

You know he's joking right? Look at the last couple of SS Nats courses, I'd expect something similar - opportunity for laps/shortcuts, and something for everyone in terms of terrain.

My Mary came with a 20t cog, but I got the freewheel for the Pomp from these guys: http://www.insideline.co.nz/ They have 19t and 22t, so you should be able to work out a suitable ratio with those. I'll just run the usual 32:20 on my Mary.
