I tried a lap on the 34:20, and died badly on the first climb, then again heading into the exit trails, then again on the pig climb.
didn't bother with rockdrop or rosebank as I was already aware of how those trails ride.

had lunch and swapped the 20 for a 22, much better climbing but the rain made climbing the slick clay all but impossible on my vulpines.

Velo only has 20's and one at that. Not that Matt's at the shop today.

Why does going riding involve taking so much stuff

think about guys..unless you are going to be in the first 30 or so you ain't going to be going anywhere fast..... :paranoid:

21km of track, 1000 riders thats about 21 metres each, do really think gearing is going to make that much difference....track stands are probably going to more in order

mind I suspect a big number won't make it much past the first beer tent

32-17, ....a high 48 inches turned out to be perfect for me, and all the other guys I went up with, and we werent that serious. We all fluked the hell start and climbed all of the first hill except the badly rutted bit near the top. Everyone was happy with that gear. In previous races up there, doing the enduros, we ran lower gears, because the courses were a lot steeper. A lot of the good trails were not used in the SS worlds, most likely because they were a bit narrow, and maybe there were OSH concerns? It was pretty good compromise in the end, as we went out and rode Billy T and all the cool trails the next morning anyway!

Getting out with the lead pack was handy for you, even though you did a small reverse manoeuvre to do so :sly:

Was a great day out. A bit annoyed that I and other people weren't told we could have opted for Redbull shots over beer. And finish time and/or position didn't exist for the lower classes.

What was with all the people bailing on a second lap?
More so the "Pain Train" gang standing around looking more PD gang then Train.

We got top 5 men and top 5 women. After that we weren't too worried. It wasn't the style of event where there are detailed results for everyone - look and see what has been done in previous years and we followed along with that.
